Akirin1 Antibody: The highly conserved, nuclear-localized Akirin1 and Akirin2 proteins critically regulate the transcription of NF-kappa B-dependent genes and are required for defense against Gram-negative bacteria in the immune deficiency and NF-kappa B pathways. Akirin1 is dispensable in the mouse, and neither knockout mice nor cells derived from them have obvious distinctive phenotypes. In contrast, Akirin2 is required for development in the mouse and knockout of both Akirin homologs in mice show that Akirin2 is required downstream of toll-like receptor (TLR), TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta signaling, and for the production of IL-6. Akirin2 is functionally closer to the single gene in Drosophila, as the homozygous null D. melanogaster Akirin mutants show a similar, mid-to-early embryonic death.

DCLK3 Antibody: DCLK3 is one of three doublecortin-like kinases similar to the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) family. DCLK3 mRNA, like that of the homologous DCLK1 and DCLK3, is highly expressed in adult brain, but only DCLK3 transcripts are present in liver and kidney, suggesting that DCLK3 may play other roles than in cortical development. The DCLK proteins are homologous to Doublecortin (DCX), a protein that is mutated in X-linked human lissencephaly. In mouse models where the DCX gene has been disrupted, DCLK1 expression increases slightly and appears to compensate for the loss of DCX, as mice mutant for both DCX and DCLK1 show a severe phenotype including perinatal lethality, disorganized neocortical layering, and profound hippocampal cytoarchitectural disorganization.

This gene is an ortholog of the Drosophila fat gene, which encodes a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during Drosophila development. The gene product is a member of the cadherin superfamily, a group of integral membrane proteins characterized by the presence of cadherin-type repeats. In addition to containing 34 tandem cadherin-type repeats, the gene product has five epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats and one laminin A-G domain. This gene is expressed at high levels in a number of fetal epithelia. Its product probably functions as an adhesion molecule and/or signaling receptor, and is likely to be important in developmental processes and cell communication. Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 (Ebi3) is a widely expressed homolog to the interleukin IL-12 p40 subunit protein that forms a heterodimer with either IL-12 p35 or an IL-12 p35 homolog, p28, to create a new cytokine (IL-27). Ebi3 may function to antagonize IL-12 and to inhibit the development of a Th1 immune response. Ebi3 is strongly expressed in Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells, independently of the EBV status of the tumor cells. Ebi2 is expressed in B-lymphocytes and lymphoid tissues and may function in the modulation of the immune system. Out of the nine genes that are induced by the Epstein-Barr virus, Ebi2 exhibits the highest levels of up-regulation. In addition, Ebi2 may play a role mediating normal lymphocyte functions.
