Description:
CSTB is a stefin that functions as an intracellular thiol protease inhibitor. The protein is able to form a dimer stabilized by noncovalent forces, inhibiting papain and cathepsins l, h and b. The protein is thought to play a role in protecting against the proteases leaking from lysosomes. Evidence indicates that mutations in CSTB gene are responsible for the primary defects in patients with progressive myoclonic epilepsy a stefin that functions as an intracellular thiol protease inhibitor. Evidence indicates that mutations in this gene are responsible for the primary defects in patients with progressive myoclonic epilepsy. The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins that contain multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some of the members are active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost or perhaps never acquired this inhibitory activity. There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily, including the type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins and kininogens. Description:
FBXO7 is a member of the F-box protein family which is characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. The F-box proteins constitute one of the four subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex called SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. The F-box proteins are divided into 3 classes: Fbws containing WD-40 domains, Fbls containing leucine-rich repeats, and Fbxs containing either different protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs. FBXO7 belongs to the Fbxs class and it may play a role in regulation of hematopoiesis. This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family which is characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been identified with the full-length natures of only some variants being determined.
