Pesticides, PCBs and Herbicides
The EPA is tasked with the monitoring of environmental systems as they pertain to contamination and human health. The methods issued by the EPA are created to respond to specific toxins or persistent organic pollutants (POPs) found in environmental samples such as soil, source water, drinking water, and waste. In particular, pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were in widespread industrial use up until their restriction, are of concern due to their stable and persistent nature in the environment. Another group of chemicals of high concern is the hundreds of commercial pesticides and herbicides in use in the world today. Pesticides, from algaecides to virucides, are used in large quantities in industrial and private agriculture. The concern over human pesticide exposure over the past few decades has led to extensive monitoring of these pesticides. It has been reported that over 98% of insecticides and 95% of herbicides affect areas other than their intended target product. It is essential that monitoring agencies have accurate standard mixes to measure the pesticide levels in the environment. Many new pesticides are now being tested using highly sensitive LC/MS techniques, in addition to traditional GC techniques, to determine minute amounts of residue in environmental samples and food products. At SPEX CertiPrep, we facilitate ease of monitoring and testing of pesticides by creating pesticide test mixes to suit your monitoring needs. SPEX CertiPrep is the leader in offering pesticide standards designed to work within EPA, AOAC and FDA analytical testing methods using all of the leading analytical techniques: LC, LC/MS, GC, and GC/MS. Many pesticide standard mixes are readily available in our catalog along with a large list of single pesticide standards. In addition, custom pesticide mixes can be made to your specifications to create a mix that meets your needs. US EPA Method 508 is an analytical method for the monitoring of organochlorine pesticides and PCBs in drinking water and ground water by GC/ECD

Description:
Smooth muscle myosin heavy chain (SM-MHC) is a cytoplasmic structural protein, which is a major component of the contractile apparatus in smooth muscle cells. Expression of smooth muscle myosin is developmentally regulated, appearing early in smooth muscle development, and is specific for smooth muscle development. Two isoforms of smooth muscle myosin heavy chain have been identified, designated MHC-1 and MHC-2. The antibody may be useful for the study of breast tumors as the presence of an intact layer of myoepithelial cells is an important feature, which may distinguish benign breast lesions and carcinoma in situ from invasive tumors.

Description:
BHLHA15 (basic helix-loop-helix protein 15), also known as MIST1 (muscle intestine and stomach expression 1) belongs to the bHLH family of transcription factors and plays a role in regulating the transcriptional activity of MYOD1 in muscle cell development as well as serving as a key regulator of acinar cell function (1,2). BHLHA15 contains a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain and is capable of binding to E-box motifs as a homodimer or a heterodimer with E-proteins. It may also negatively regulate bHLH-mediated transcription through a N-terminal repressor domain. It is expressed in mammary epithelial cells and is essential for the regulation of mammary gland development.

NKX2-2 Antibody: NKX2-2 (NK2 homeobox 2) is a member of a family of transcription factors that are involved in embryonic development and cell fate. NKX2-2 is crucial in the development of pancreatic islet cell differentiation and activates the ghrelin-promoter in these cells. NKX2-2 is expressed at the onset of pancreatic epithelium formation and becomes restricted to mature alpha -, beta ;- and PP cells, and in NKX2-2-null mice embryos, all beta ;-cells and most a-cells are replaced by ghrelin-positive cells. NKX2-2 is also thought to be involved in ventral neuronal patterning and floor plate development and commissural axon guidance.

Description:
DKK1, also named a SK and Dickkopf-1, belongs to the dickkopf family. DKKs play an important role in vertebrate development, where they locally inhibit Wnt regulated processes such as antero-posterior axial patterning, limb development, somitogenesis and eye formation. In the adult, Dkks are implicated in bone formation and bone disease, cancer and Alzheimer disease. SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis demonstrated that DKK1 is expressed as a 35-kD doublet protein, which is larger than the deduced molecular mass of 26 kD. Sometime DKK1 is expressed as a 42- to 50-kD secreted protein, with little change observed after glycanase treatment.
