Description:   Tau is a key microtubule-associated protein that plays an important role in the formation of microtubules in axons (Binder et al. 1985). Six tau isoforms have been identified as products of a single gene produced by alternative mRNA splicing (Goedert 1990). Tau mutations have been implicated in many neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Pick’s disease and progressive supranuclear palsy. It has been well documented that hyperphosphorylated tau is a major component of paired helical filaments in AD brain (Lee 1995). Serine 416 has been demonstrated to be a major phosphorylation site in vitro by CaM kinase II (Steiner at al. 1990).

Supplier:  Bioss
Description:   Cytokine that plays a crucial role in innate immunity of the epithelium, including to intestinal bacterial pathogens, in an autocrine manner. Stimulates the production of antibacterial peptides and proinflammatory molecules for host defense by signaling through the NF-kappa-B and MAPK pathways. Acts synergically with IL22 in inducing the expression of antibacterial peptides, including S100A8, S100A9, REG3A and REG3G. Synergy is also observed with TNF and IL1B in inducing DEFB2 from keratinocytes. Depending on the type of insult, may have both protective and pathogenic properties, either by maintaining epithelial homeostasis after an inflammatory challenge or by promoting inflammatory phenotype. Enhanced IL17C/IL17RE signaling may also lead to greater susceptibility to autoimmune diseases.

Description:   IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells, and also by mast cells and NK cells. Targeted deletion of IL-13 in mice resulted in impaired Th2 cell development and indicated an important role for IL-13 in the expulsion of gastrointestinal parasites. IL-13 exerts anti-inflammatory effects on monocytes and macrophages and it inhibits the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8. IL-13 has also been shown to enhance B cell proliferation and to induce isotype switching resulting in increased production of IgE. Blocking of IL-13 activity inhibits the pathophysiology of asthma. Human and murine IL-13 is cross-species reactive.

Supplier:  Anaspec Inc
Description:   Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is expressed exclusively in the central nervous system. It is a glycoprotein observed to be important in the myelination of nerves. It is a central molecule actively studied for its role in Multiple Sclerosis. MOG (35-55) is able to induce autoantibody production and relapsing-remitting neurological disease causing extensive plaque-like demyelination. Autoantibody response to MOG (35-55) has been observed in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and MOG (35-55)-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) C57/BL6 mice and Lewis rats.

Supplier:  Prosci
Description:   Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a cytokine produced by type 2 helper T cells, the Th2 cells. These cells tends to make a specific set of lymphokines including IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, IL-3 and GM-CSF and fail to produce IL-2, IFN-gamma, and lymphotoxin (TNF-beta). In addition, mast cells can produce IL-4. IL-4 exerts numerous effects on various hematopoietic cell types. On B cells, IL-4 promotes immunoglobulin class switching to IgE and IgG1 isotypes and upregulates MHC class II and CD23 expression. IL-4 promotes survival, growth and differentiation of both T and B lymphocytes, mast cells and endothelial cells. In addition, IL-4 inhibits the production of TNF, IL-1 and IL-6 by macrophages.

Supplier:  Enzo Life Sciences
Description:   The lymphocyte activation gene-3 (LAG-3, CD223), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) related to CD4, binds to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules but with higher affinity than CD4. Several alternative mRNA splice-variants of human LAG-3 have been described, two of them encoding potential secreted forms: LAG-3V1 (i.e. the D1-D2 domains of the protein, 36 kDa) and LAG-3V3 (D1-D3, 52 kDa). The longer form was detected by ELISA in the serum of healthy individuals as well as of tuberculosis patients with a favorable outcome. LAG-3 expression by T cell clones correlated with IFN-γ production, and hence soluble LAG-3 has been suggested as a serological marker of Th1 responses.

Description:   The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both the phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate members of the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase superfamily (MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK, p38), which are associated with cellular proliferation and differentiation. Different members of the family of dual specificity phosphatases show distinct substrate specificities for various MAP kinases, different tissue distribution and subcellular localization, and different modes of inducibility of their expression by extracellular stimuli. This protein product inactivates ERK2, is expressed in a variety of tissues with the highest levels in heart and pancreas, and unlike most other members of this family, is localized in the cytoplasm.

Supplier:  PeproTech, Inc.
Description:   Proteases (also called Proteolytic Enzymes, Peptidases, or Proteinases) are enzymes that hydrolyze the amide bonds within proteins or peptides. Most proteases act in a specific manner, hydrolyzing bonds at, or adjacent to, specific residues, or a specific sequence of residues contained within the substrate protein or peptide. Proteases play an important role in most diseases and biological processes, including prenatal and postnatal development, reproduction, signal transduction, immune response, various autoimmune and degenerative diseases, and cancer. They are also an important research tool, as they are frequently used in the analysis and production of proteins. Glu-C cleaves at the Carboxyl side of E (can also cleave D under certain conditions). Recombinant Staphylococcus Glu-C is a 28.8 kDa protease consisting of 266 amino acid residues.

Supplier:  Prosci
Description:   The IL-1 family is comprised of 11 structurally related ligands, including recently re-named IL-36α (IL-1F6), β (IL-1F8) and γ (IL-1F9). IL-36β is highly expressed in psoriatic plaques, and at lower levels in various other tissues. IL-36β signals through the IL-1Rrp2 (IL-1R6) receptor, which is primarily expressed on certain dendritic cells. The interaction of the IL-1Rrp2 receptor with IL-36 ligands induces dendritic cell maturation and activation. IL-36β also functions as an agonist of NF-kappaB, and stimulates the production of pro-inflammatory proteins, including IL-6, IL-8, BD-2, and BD-3. Recombinant human IL-36β is a 17.3 kDa protein containing 154 amino acid residues.
