ICAM-1 (CD54) is a 90-kDa transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is critical for the firm attachment and transmigration of leukocytes out of blood vessels and into tissues. The SIX proteins (sine oculis) are a family of homeodomain transcription factors that share a conserved DNA binding domain. Six members (Six1-Six6) of the Six gene family have been identified in mice and humans.
